Arlette Juarez Ms. Lehmann English 2-1B 11 December 2019 My Review on (Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Connect) Ai Yazawa once said “People can't be just tied together. They must connect, otherwise they'll find themselves bound hand and foot.” Frans de Waal seems to agree with Ai Yazawa. The article “Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Connect” is a good read because it is a well-organized article. This article is only meant for people who are looking for information. He is trying to tell us how we all connect to each other. De Waal has a degree in biology. He is a published author. His purpose for this article is to inform us about the ways we connect. He is unbiased about his work; he cares about getting the facts right. He is the director of the Living Links Primate Center at Yerkes. The way he wrote this article is in a conversational tone. He wrote this for the average reader to read. He tries to engage readers with personal observations. He is missing outside sources, so this article won’t really work for a research paper. In De Waal’s article “Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Connect,” he really doesn’t give any section titles so that readers understand what he is talking about. I think it would have been better if he added the section titles in so that readers could understand the points more. The introduction eases into the topic. De Waal’s first paragraph makes readers want to keep reading instead of just stopping. De Waal keeps this article organized and moves logically from point to point. All the information that he gives is relevant. The introduction and the conclusion of De Waals article tie together very well. The main claim he puts forward is well introduced. In conclusion, he restates and clarifies the main claim, which is good. De Waal explains that primates mimic other primates. He uses monkeys and humans to give examples of their behaviors and to explain his claim that we are connected on a biological level. De Waals qualifications work for informing audiences. There’s no bibliography, so this won’t work for in dept learning. I feel as if this article is worth reading. It gives good examples of how humans interact with each other. If you wanted to use this for a research paper, it wouldn’t work because he really doesn’t give sources to support his assertions. His degree in biology make him very qualified for writing this article. He made me believe his claim more. He drew me in as I read about the article. I feel as if he could give some section titles to make this article better than it is now. His introduction was well organized, and it all made sense the more I read of the article. I believe that this article made me understand the topic. This article is worth your time.
